Advanced students from the prestigious Miami City Ballet School will perform Carnival of the Animals, a ballet about the fragility of Earth's creatures and the role of humans in caring for our planet. Three Poachers are stealing wild animals in the African Savannah. Some children and an older sister, who are on a picnic, watch them capture a beautiful white swan. They save the swan and release the other captured animals with the help of the lead poacher, who has fallen in love with the older sister. The ballet ends in a great celebration of life, love, beauty and a rediscovering of humans' similarity and connection to the animal world. They rejoice in their ability to restore the balance in nature and our planets eco-system.

Help protect North Head’s native bandicoots from attack by introduced predators, by joining the Earthwatch 'Bandicoots on the Brink' conservation team.

As an Earthwatch volunteer you’ll spend the day walking through this spectacular area of endangered banksia bushland with diverse birdlife, military remnants and magnificent harbour views, to lure and catch bandicoot predators on camera.

You will use cameras and scent lures to attract and film predators across the entire headland. GPS will then be used to locate and then collect cameras and record a range of habitat characteristics.

The research is designed to deepen our understanding of how feral predators affect threatened native animals living within our urban landscapes. The ‘Bandicoots on the Brink’ project will identify which introduced predator species are present, how they use the landscape and whether there are any particular hotspots for predator activity.

To volunteer call Earthwatch on 03 9682 6828 or email earth@earthwatch.org.au
